It's that time again - time for planting rice. I love how the wind was blowing through the rice fields. What a beautiful afternoon in Mayantoc.
We have attended baptisms every weekend that we have been serving here. Occasionally we attend the following Sunday as the newly baptized are confirmed members of the Church and receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost. What a sacred experience it is for us to witness the spirit that attends baptisms and confirmations. There is such joy in the doctrine of Jesus Christ. We can experience that joy daily, even hourly as we have Faith in the Savior and His Atonement, repent, renew our covenants by partaking of the sacrament, worthily enjoy the companionship of the Holy Ghost and endure to the end. This is the greatest work happening on the earth! And it is happening here in the Angeles mission. What a wonderful opportunity for us to be here and witness the gathering of Isreal.
What a beautiful Sabbath day for the Moncada 2 branch. As these 6 siblings and cousins were confirmed members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost. From Elder Bednar Teach to Build Faith in Jesus Christ Three statements by the Prophet Joseph Smith emphasize the vital linkage between the ordinances of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins and the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. Statement 1: “Baptism is a holy ordinance preparatory to the reception of the Holy Ghost; it is the channel and key by which the Holy Ghost will be administered.” Statement 2: “You might as well baptize a bag of sand as a man, if not done in view of the remission of sins and getting of the Holy Ghost. Baptism by water is but half a baptism, and is good for nothing without the other half—that is, the baptism of the Holy Ghost.” Statement 3: “The baptism of water, without the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost attending it, is of no use. … They are necessarily and inseparably connected.” The consistent connectedness among the principle of repentance, the ordinances of baptism and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and the glorious blessing of a remission of sins is emphasized repeatedly in the scriptures. We are not cleansed from sin by the single act of being immersed in water. The ordinance of confirming a new member of the Church and bestowing the gift of the Holy Ghost is both simple and profound. Worthy Melchizedek Priesthood holders place their hands upon the head of an individual and call him or her by name. Then, by the authority of the holy priesthood and in the name of the Savior, the individual is confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and this important phrase is uttered: “Receive the Holy Ghost.” These four words, “Receive the Holy Ghost,” are not a passive pronouncement; rather, they constitute a priesthood injunction—an authoritative admonition to act and not simply to be acted upon.34 The Holy Ghost does not become operative in our lives merely because hands are placed upon our heads and those four important words are spoken. As we receive this ordinance, each of us accepts a sacred and ongoing responsibility to desire, to seek, to work, and to so live that we indeed “receive the Holy Ghost” and its attendant spiritual gifts. “For what doth it profit a man if a gift is bestowed upon him, and he receive not the gift? Behold, he rejoices not in that which is given unto him, neither rejoices in him who is the giver of the gift.”
